Final Cut Pro to DaVinci Resolve

BEFORE Exporting a timeline from YOUR EDITING SOFTWARE, you have to export your last version of your edit as a reference.

Please REFER to the NAMING CHART and REFERENCE POSTs.

Exporting a timeline from Final Cut Pro (FCP) to DaVinci Resolve is a common post-production workflow for color grading and finishing. Here's a quick guide on how to do it:

  • Step 1: Open your FCP project and select the timeline you want to export.

  • Step 2: Check for any effects that are present in your offline timeline, and remove them if necessary.

  • Step 3: Make sure that your offline timeline is relinked to the original source files, not the proxies.

  • Step 4: Choose File > Export XML from the menu.

  • Step 5: Name your XML file and choose a location to save it.

  • Step 6: Open DaVinci Resolve and create a new project.

  • Step 7: Choose File > Import Timeline > Import AAF, EDL, XML from the menu.

  • Step 8: Navigate to your XML file and select it.

  • Step 9: DaVinci Resolve will import your timeline, including all the media files and transitions used in the FCP project.
